The Government of Mexico said Wednesday that a criminal group had dismantled behind a mass extortion scheme in the operation of this largest type to date.
The gang, with ties with an important drug sign, had operated from the central state of Mexico, extorting companies and individuals in 14 municipalities and controlling the unions in the construction, mining, agriculture and delivery of packages industries.
“Combining this criminal group was an urgent need to protect the local economy and the peace of thousands of families,” said Mexico Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch.
