Kangaroo causes a crash, traffic jam
Two fugitive Wallabies caused a cross -border persecution in Belgium and France, with the police and hot firefighters after the marsupials of fast jumps.
The Firefighters captured one of the fugitives on Tuesday near the city of northern Lille, days after the couple left their enclosure in the border city of Mouscron, Belgium. But his accomplice was not yet counted for Thursday at noon.
“The other Walaby is still fleeing and is nowhere,” said the city of Mouscron in a publication on social networks.
The escape took place while its owner was on vacation abroad and had entrusted the care of animals to a neighbor, said Belgian police.
“We are not combing the area to find it, it could be anywhere,” a Mouscron police spokeswoman told News. “We are mainly waiting for a local resident who can see him to inform his location.”
The rebound duo was released over the weekend and the sightings soon spread throughout the region. The images of the animals jumping around the urban areas, sometimes scared by the motorists who passed, became viral on social networks.
“Thank you for doing everything possible to find these poor animals,” said an Internet user on the Mouscron Police Facebook page.
The Fire Department in the Nord district of France reflected that the Marsupials “had suddenly decided to explore the world that surrounded them, far from the Australian plains, closer to the urban jungle.”
Firefighters in Wattrelos, France, finally cornered one of the escaped on Tuesday night after he ventured into the garden of a residential building.
“An antiecape network was deployed to prevent the marsupial from running,” said the Fire Service. “In fact, the main fear was that the animal could cause an accident or hurt itself.”
He took the wildlife specialists for two hours so that Walaby was safely inside a cage. Then he was “returned to his kingdom, that of Belgium” and freed himself back to his enclosure, said the fire department.
The images published on social networks by officials show that the captured marsupial is placed in a cage to be transported.
Wallabies, a smaller member of the Kangaroo family, are native to Australia, and the country’s rugby team is nicknamed after them. Having Wallabies and other exotic animals is allowed in Belgium whenever they are fed, treated and not mistreated.
Fugitive marsupials have reached the headlines in the United States recently. In April, a fugitive Kangaroo called Sheila Turn off an interstatal road section in Alabama, which makes two vehicles crash before being captured.
A few weeks later, the police in Durango, Colorado, caught A kangaroo that escaped from his house. The authorities said it was the same Kangaroo that escaped And they jumped through the center in October 2024, before the officers captured him.
