Billy Joel reveals Trump’s comment that forced him to get politician on stage

Billy Joel confessed in a new series about his life that “he has never liked politics on stage.”

However, the singer shared a particular moment from Trump that inspired him to express his views.

“Sometimes there are things that happen and you can’t look the other way,” Joel said in the second part of his HBO documentary, “Billy Joel: And so goes,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

Joel said he took measures after seeing the White nationalists marching in the streets in Charlottesville, Virginia, for the manifestation “Unite The Right”, and the comments that Trump made after a man took his car to a crowd and killed a protester.

“I was angry,” Joel said about seeing the manifestation. “Here they march through an American city saying: ‘The Jews will not replace us.’ We fight a war to defeat these people!

“And when Trump comes out and says: ‘There were very good people on both sides,'” recalled the “Uptown Girl” singer. “I should have left and said: ‘Those are bad people.’ There is no qualification.

To protest Trump’s comments, Joel said he added a David star to his outfit when he performed at Madison Square Garden after the march.

“I had to do something, but I didn’t want to get on a box of soap on stage and say: ‘This is wrong,” he said. “So I used the star. But basically to say, whatever happens, I will always be a Jew.”

Joel has previously talked about Trump’s comments, telling News in 2018 that “he had to do something that night” he did.

“It really enraged me, actually,” Joel said at that time. “My old man, his family was annihilated. They were sacrificed in Auschwitz. He and his parents could leave. But then he was in the US army. Uu. During the war and fought with Patton and the Nazis shot him. My family suffered. And I think I really have the right to do it.”
