The new Sydney Sweeney ads for American clothing retailer Eagle, who play with the words “genes” and “jeans”, have left some users of social networks convinced that he is promoting white supremacy.
In an ad, the camera accumulates me Sweeney’s legs while lying down and pressing her jeans. She says: “Genes are transmitted from parents to the offspring, often determining features such as hair color, personality and even the color of the eyes.” The camera reaches its face when it says: “My jeans are blue.” The narrator then says the motto: “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”

The users of social networks expressed their discomfort with the ads, including the Tiktok @hopeyoufindyourdad user, who pointed out the double sense of the ad in a publication with more than 790,000 views.
“They could have chosen several angles to perform this campaign, but saying that about a woman with blonde hair and blue eyes at this time she is dressed like Yeehaw America, that says a lot,” said the user, adding: “Obviously, it is to promote European centrism.”

Instagram’s account style analysis called the announcement “A nod to Eugenics, aligning the brand with the growing conservative/right -sinite movement/white supremacy” in a publication.
On American Eagle Instagram, users have left negative comments in publications with Sweeney ads. A user wrote: “I almost forget American Eagle. Thank you for remembering why I left the brand years ago.” Under a photo of Sweeney and his dog, a German shepherd, a user wrote: “The blonde girl, blue eyes, denim and a German shepherd. So are we alone in cosplay 1939?”
Another person wrote in X that the ad is “So Hitler.” Other users echoed similar thoughts.
Neither American Eagle nor Sweeney representatives immediately responded to comments requests.
In a press release since the ads were launched last week, American Eagle said that the campaign “is a return to the essential denim clothing and a celebration of what the beloved brand makes better: making customers look and feel good in the jeans AE.”
American Eagle will also launch the limited edition “The Sydney Jean”, in collaboration with Sweeney. The Jean has a butterfly in his rear pocket to represent the awareness of domestic violence, which, according to the press release, Sweeney is passionate about to support the cause, the company said that 100% of the purchase price of the “Sydney Jean” will be donated to the crisis text line.
