The positive effects of GLP-1 medications extend beyond diabetes control and weight loss.
The LPG-1, also known as GLP-1 agonists, are a type of drug that mimics a natural hormone called 1 similar to glucagon that helps regulate blood sugar levels.
Experts claim that these medications, which include semaglutida (such as Ozempic and Wogovy) or Tirzepatide (Mounjaro and Zepbound), can also help with rheumatoid arthritis (AR).

While there is much to learn about these alternative uses for LPG-1 and how they work, Decotiis said that fatty cells produce certain substances, such as cytokines or adipocins, which can increase inflammation throughout the body and impact how the immune system works.
“Cytocins produced in excess can damage the body,” he said. “With Covid, some patients who died had experienced a cytokine storm, where the immune system did not respond to the infection.”

Decotiis clarified that it is not yet confirmed that the informed anti-artritis effect of LPG-1 is associated with weight loss, although he said that he has seen that this benefit continues even with a low dose of the medication.
The expert said that she has also noticed a wide range of other positive effects associated with GLP-1 medications, including the lowest alcohol intake and less dependence on ADD and anti-language medications.
