Eight children between 8 and 11 and an adult were taken to a hospital as caution. All were discharged.

Ruben, whose home address is about 15 miles from the shelter, faces three positions of “intentionally assault, mistreat, neglect, abandon or expose children in a way that probably causes them unnecessary suffering or health injuries”, related to three children in the camp.

“This has been an extremely disturbing and shocking moment for the community, and especially for the most affected children and parents,” said Janine McKinney, main prosecutor of the crown of the Crown Prosecutor’s Office in East Midlands, according to News themezone BBC partner.

The shelter is owned by Braithwaite Gospel Trust, a Christian beneficial organization. The police emphasized that the owners “are independent of those who use or hire the shelter and are not connected to the incident.”
