Trump hoped to lead the meeting on Gaza’s plans
The United States ambassador to Turkey and Syria’s special envoy Tom Barrack canceled a planned visit to the cities of the southern Lebanon on Wednesday, said the National News Agency of Lebanon, in the midst of a violent reaction about the comments made the day before that was criticized by Lebanese journalists as dehumanizing.
News themezone has sought the confirmation of the Barrack office at the United States Embassy in Ankara of the change in their travel plans and any reasoning for this, but the informed movement to cancel visits to Sour and Khiam, in the south of Lebanon, occurred online online and protests against the expected presence of the US diplomat.
Barrack, an old friend and fundonator of President Trump who swore earlier this year as an ambassador of the United States in Turkey, has brought a reaction after urging journalists during a press conference in Beirut to “act civilized” instead of “animals.”
“This is the problem with What is happening in the region?“Barrack said while journalists shouted questions.

The interaction occurred at the beginning of a press conference at the Baabda presidential palace in Beirut after Barrack met with Lebanese president Michel Aoun. During the meeting, they argued Hezbollahthe terrorist group designated by the United States backed by Iran based in the south of Lebanon that has long been a powerful force in the country’s policy, when journalists began shouting questions.
Barrack was accompanied by the special envoy of the United States to the Middle East Morgan Ortago.
“Do you think this is fun for us? Do you think this is economically beneficial for Morgan and I am here to endure this madness,” Barrack asked in the room full of journalists.
Comments quickly generated generalized criticism from the members of the press and others on social networks, condemning Barrack’s characterization to Lebanese journalists.
In a brief statement published on social networks, the Lebanese Presidency’s office said that “it expresses repentance for the statements made inadvertently of its platform by one of its guests today.”
“Although it emphasizes its absolute respect for human dignity in general, it wishes to reaffirm its full appreciation for all journalists and representatives of the accredited media in particular, and their highest cordial ones extend to them for their efforts and dedication to fulfill their professional and national duties,” said the presidency, without analyzing Barrack or offering more details.
The union of journalists in Lebanon said in a statement that “strongly condemns the insulting comments” made by the ambassador of the United States, and added that “it was not a sliding of the language or an isolated position, but rather an unacceptable exhibition of superiority when dealing with the press.”
The Union continued to say that Barrack’s words “reflect a deeply rooted colonial superiority towards the peoples of the region and constitute a shameless violation of the most basic principles of the diplomatic label.”
The union asked Barrack to issue an “official and public apology”, and asked the United States embassy in Beirut to assume a clear position about what he called unacceptable behavior.
He also urged Lebanese and Arab media to boycott the activities and Barrack’s news conferences until an apology is issued.
Barrack’s office at the United States Embassy in Turkey did not respond to News themezone comments on criticism of his comments on Tuesday, or to confirm the change reported in his Wednesday’s travel plans. News themezone has also sought the confirmation of the Barrack Altered Travel Plan with the State Department in Washington.
The ambassador was transferred early in the day to a Lebanese military base by helicopter, for a previously planned tour.

The photos and the video shared by the local media showed relatively small street protests against the expected visit of Barrack in Khiam on Wednesday. Many of those who attended had hezbollah flags, and there was graffiti painted on the street calling the US diplomat an “animal.”
