New York led 2-1 at that time.
“Alex Ovechkin has been an unstoppable force from the moment he entered the NHL in 2005, a unique effervescent personality package, dynamic physicality and talent from another world to shoot the album,” said NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, in a statement. “His passion to win only corresponds to his incredible ability to score goals.
“And today, he is alone. After completing his implacable search for a more unwavering record, Alex makes the history of hockey, happening to Wayne Gretzky, who had eclipsed Gordie Howe, who had surpassed Maurice Richard, as the leader of the goals of all time of the National Hockey League. The NHL greeted Alex Ovechkin for this of what the performance is burning. “

Ovechkin tied the record on Friday with two goals against the Chicago Blackhawks. He could have had an opportunity in a third, but promised not to score the record-setter in an empty network goal.
I just needed another day in the middle to overcome Gretzky.
“It was an honor to keep the goals of the National Hockey League during the last three decades,” Gretzky said in a statement. “Now I am delighted to transmit that honor to a man who really was born to put the album on the network and who has played our game with remarkable passion and power.
“I will always be grateful for the way my idol, Gordie Howe, congratulated me in breaking his record in 1994. And I am delighted to be present to share this moment with you, Alex, since they are now the main scorer in the history of the NHL.”
