Amanda Peet says her husband dated his famous double when they were in mutual insurance
Amanda Peet opens up about her husband David Benioff’s surprisingly intimate history with his famous doppelgänger, Lake Bell.
Appearing on Dax Shepherd’s “Armchair Expert” podcast this week, the “Your Friends & Neighbors” actor revealed that Benioff dated Bell while he and his now-wife were on a nine-month hiatus from their relationship.
“It was a mutual breakup. I wanted to have a baby so badly that I was 31,” Peet, now 54, explained. “So I was really looking down… it was hard. I found out, through the rumors, that he’s dating her.”
The situation got even worse, she said, when her friends decided to invite her to dinner with the intention of cheering her up.

“From the other side of the bar, this guy just says, ‘Lake! Lake!’ And I thought, ‘This can’t really be happening,’” he recalled. “It was literally within 24 hours of finding out.”
Peet did not identify the restaurant customer who had mistaken her for Bell, only stating that he was a fellow actor. She told the man that she was not Bell, but admitted that her response might have been a little more aggressive than she intended given the moment.
“I would pay a lot of money to see him say it,” she joked, after describing herself as “the jealous type.”
Benioff, a writer and producer best known as co-creator of “Game of Thrones,” and Peet have been married since 2006 and share three children.

As for Bell, the “Bless This Mess” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” star was married to tattoo artist Scott Campbell from 2013 to 2020. The former couple shares two children.
Elsewhere in her “Armchair Expert” talk, Peet said she had been confused by Bell so many times over the years that it inspired a scene in her new movie, “Fantasy Life,” in which she plays an unemployed actor.
Jokes aside, he had nothing but praise for Bell and said she was “beautiful.”
Bell, 46, addressed the comparisons in a 2019 interview with The AV Club, and even named Peet as the actor she had chosen to play herself in a biopic.
“She’s amazing,” he said. “I feel like it’s a huge compliment; she’s a smoke show and she’s very talented, and she was here first. She was here first with the light eyes and the brown hair and, you know, the features.”
