American cruise passengers in Bermuda accused of having a large amount of drugs, including the powerful opioid

Bermuda authorities said Tuesday that arrested four passengers from the American cruises accused of having drugs and with the intention of distributing them on the island.

Police said in a statement that suspects had a “significant amount of illegal drugs,” including cannabis and synthetic opioid CARFENTAthat experts say that it is 100 times more powerful than fentanyl and is used to reassure elephants.

“Even small amounts can be mortal,” said Interima Derricka Burns detective superintendent. “This seizure may have avoided a possible tragedy.”

The suspects were also accused of having vape pens and suspicions of Gommies.

Bermuda Police said security officers aboard a carnival cruise had arrested the suspects. They were arrested upon arrival in the rich British territory abroad located in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The police did not provide additional details. Carnival said in a brief message that complies with all applicable laws and regulations.

“We follow a zero tolerance drug policy,” said the company. “We also advise our guests who may be personally subject to local actions to apply the law.”

According to the United States Drug Control Administration, carphantanil is a white and dusty drug that “looks a lot like other substances such as fentanyl or cocaine, but its danger far exceeds that of almost any other opioid in the street.”

According to the centers for disease control and prevention, death -related deaths increased approximately seven times, from 29 deaths from January to June 2023, up to 238 deaths from January to June 2024. The carriage has been detected in 37 states.
