“And only like this …” The creator and showrunner Michael Patrick King is defending his decision to conclude the Renaissance series “Sex and the City” with a decidedly little glamorous plot point that involves literal poop.

The final episode of Thursday’s series, “Party of One”, found Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) celebrating Thanksgiving at the house of her former friend, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon).

The night culminates with the chief of Charlotte, Mark Kasabian (Victor Garber), and Miranda struggling to deal with an overflowing toilet that a guest to dinner with lactose had obstructed. The scene breeding factor was significantly expanded on how, UM, faithful to life, the support Turds appeared.

In an interview with Variety published on Thursday, King said that he and the creative team of the program saw the scene as a reminder for spectators that “we cannot take us too seriously.”

“For the beauty of the pink and bright tulle skirt and tulle of Carrie, that is the height, the casualty is a toilet full of shit. Because it guesses what? Being single, there is a lot of shit, and the relationships are a lot of shit,” he explained. “It is comedy, with drama, with romance, with the fairy tale. I suppose it is an answer to the fairy tale.”

King elaborated even more in a conversation with a deadline, noting that the scene also had a “symbolic” objective. As for the poop itself, it was made of silicone and required a single shot.

“This was a manifestation of how shit gets back and you have to deal with that. And also, we have always made a bass in the program,” he said. “We have always done Couture and Comedy … it was the symbolic version of having to deal with much doo in relationships, and it goes back if you do not.”

Even so, highlighting the excrement in the final episode of a series that has become a synonym for avant -garde fashion and the luxury of New York took many off guard.

“Why do I say goodbye to some of my favorite television characters of all time and watch an overflow of toilet on my screen?” A person wrote in X.

He added another: “I should change it to ‘and just like shit'”.

Critics were not impressed.

“The crescendo of the night involved a overflowed bath of a lot of poop. It could have really been the final plan for him complete franchise? “The Guardian wrote.

Indiewire felt similarly, pointing out: “There is less than seven minutes Among our last glance of Carrie Bradshaw, dancing through her palatial hall in thousands of dollars from head to head, and a gurgant feces geyser throwing directly on our collectively horrified faces. ”

For others, however, the scene was indicative of the general reception of “and simply …”, which debuted in HBO Max in 2021 to the great fanfare, but never captured the cultural spirit as “Sex and The City.”

HBO Max’s without ceremony August 1 advertisement that the series would conclude at the end of its third season was a surprise for many, provocation of speculation That the transmission platform canceled it despite King and Parker’s claims that it was a creative decision.
