Ariana Grandes’ Co-Star Speaks Out After Singer Was Approached By Fan At Mean Event
One of Ariana Grande’s co-stars is speaking out after an overzealous fan harassed the singer during the premiere of “Wicked: For Good” in Singapore on Thursday.
Marissa Bode, who plays Nessarose Thropp in the film adaptation of the popular Broadway play, posted several videos on TikTok on Friday addressing the absurd incident, where, during the premiere, a social media influencer who invaded the stage ran up to the singer and got close enough to put an arm around her, jumping up and down in the process. Cynthia Erivo, who also stars in the film, helped carry the man to safety.
Bode began by responding to people who defended the behavior simply because the individual claimed to be a Grande fan, a justification that didn’t sit well with him.
″’But they’re fanatics!’ OK. So they are bigots and losers,” Bode said.
The actor said the encounter constituted a violation of Grande’s personal boundaries, then moved on to the idea of parasocial relationships: situations in which someone forms a one-way emotional bond with a celebrity or fictional character simply through the consumption of their media, creating a feeling of closeness or friendship that is not actually mutual.
Bode then criticized people who don’t recognize personal boundaries when interacting with public figures.

“Did you get your views? Did you get your likes?” she asked. “Guess what you did too? You made someone feel incredibly insecure.”
He went on to call the attacker a “bad person” for showing no remorse and emphasized that anyone who experiences an invasion of their space owes no one a courtesy.
“I don’t think women, or anyone, should be expected to move with grace or respond with kindness when they’ve been violated in that way, and expecting that makes you a weirdo, too,” she said.
“The thing is, most of the time women who are in the public eye respond kindly because they know what the result will be if they don’t,” Bode continued.

In a separate video, Bode said the man couldn’t be a Grande “fan” if he believed it was acceptable to “ignore boundaries and see someone as a product and not a person.”
