Beware of beer drinkers: scientists find ‘Forever Chemicals’ that exceed the limits of EPA in US beers

Recent studies have found that some beers made in the US.

A team of ACS’s environmental science and technology conducted a study to discover how Policuoroalquilo (PFA) or “chemical products forever” enter beers and how much they contain.

“As an occasional beer drinker, I was wondering if the PFA in the water supplies were reaching our pints. I hope these findings inspire water treatment strategies and policies that help reduce the probability of PFA in future spills,” said the protagonist of the Jennifer Hoponick Redmon research.

Alcohol deaths have more than duplicate in recent years, especially among women.

While breweries have water filtration and treatment systems, these are not designed to prevent PFA from entering the lot.

By modifying a test tool of the EPA to analyze PFA levels in drinking water, Redmon and its equipment tested 23 beers.

The team tested areas of areas with a well -known pollution of the documented water system along with some other popular beers with unknown water sources.

Through his research, it was discovered that beer was made in North Carolina, California and Michigan had high levels of this PFAS.

The researchers found a strong correlation between the PFA concentrations in the municipal drinking water and the levels in the beer prepared locally.

In 95% of the proven beer, PFAS was found with perfluoroctansulfonate and perfluorooctanoic acid, two chemicals forever with EPA limits recently established in drinking water.

The proven international beers, one from the Netherlands and two from Mexico, were less likely to have detectable PFA.

“Our findings indicate a strong link between the PFA in drinking water and beer, with beers made of higher areas with local drinking water that translates into higher levels of PFA in beer, which shows that drinking water is a main route of PFA contamination in beer,” the research team concluded.
