Ali Velshi of MSNBC warned this weekend about the democratic setback in the United States, highlighting a giant flag of the official portrait of Donald Trump that recently hung in a federal building as a worrying sign of “progressive authoritarianism.”

Velshi argued that Trump’s large image now hung in the Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC, is directly from Strongman’s play book and similar to the great images used by authoritarian leaders worldwide.

The tribute to Trump is “far from being the norm” in the United States and only one of the rules Trump has broken since he returned to the White House, Velshi continued, referring to adults about Trump in the cabinet meetings and more.

“He may not care,” Velshi acknowledged, “but all these changes may seem small and petty, but it is the erosion of democratic norms. He is softening people for potentially more immoral and authoritarian behavior.”

“If you can place a giant poster of yourself, why not place more until Trump becomes omnipresent?” asked. “Until they remind you wherever you go, that old Big Donald is looking at you.”
