Bill Maher says he and fellow TV host Jimmy Kimmel may “never speak again” after a bitter fight.

On Monday’s episode of his “Club Random” podcast, Maher was candid about his past friendship with Kimmel and suggested there was a difference in their political views between them.

“He’s very angry with me and I know you’re close to him,” she told guest Adam Carolla, who co-hosted Comedy Central’s “The Man Show” with Kimmel from 1999 to 2004. “I hope you tell him I’m sorry they got out of line. I don’t think he did anything wrong. We can have disagreements.”

Describing Kimmel as “one of the nicest guys,” Maher added: “My tribe is supposed to be left-wing, but these are the people who just can’t talk to you unless you’re exactly there, whereas Republicans always come on my show.”

Maher did not share details of what fractured her relationship with Kimmel in their “Club Random” chat. Last year, however, he publicly criticized Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney, after she acknowledged cutting ties with family members who supported President Donald Trump.

“It hurts me a lot because of the personal relationship that I have now where my husband is out there, fighting this man,” McNearney explained on a November episode of the “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast. “And for me, voting for Trump means not voting for my husband, for me and for our family.”

McNearney also executive produces her husband’s late-night talk show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” His comments came just weeks after ABC and its parent company, Disney, pulled “Jimmy Kimmel Live” off the air after being pressured to do so by Trump’s Federal Communications Commission.

The controversial suspension arose from comments Kimmel made about slain activist Charlie Kirk. Trump predictably gloated over Kimmel’s absence from the airwaves, which lasted five days and drew cries of censure.

Discussing McNearney’s “ultimatum” on an episode of “Real Time” that aired last fall, Maher said, “Ultimatums don’t make people rethink their politics. They make them rethink you.”

Although Maher has criticized Trump in the past, he drew attention last year after dining with the president. He later described himself as the “Trump whisperer” and has said he would return to the White House if invited back.

Later in their discussion on “Club Random,” Maher reiterated that Kimmel was a “great guy,” but still didn’t seem optimistic about a reconciliation.

“I don’t put up with the nonsense of the left, and I never stop making fun of the nonsense of the right,” he said. “And if that’s not good enough for you, then I think you’re the asshole, and I don’t think Jimmy is an asshole… it bothers me, you know, because of the last thing that happened, that we might never talk again.”
