Billy Joel talks about brain disorder for the first time
Billy Joel has a positive health update for her fans.
The “Piano Man” singer assured everyone that he was doing his best in an interview with People magazine published on Monday, about two months since he announced that he had been diagnosed with a neurological condition called normal pressure hydrocephalus.
“I know that many people are worried about me and my health, but I’m fine,” he told the magazine. “What I have is something that very few people know, including me, no matter how much you try to investigate it. I am doing everything possible to work with him and recover from him.”
Normal pressure hydrocephaly is a treatable brain condition caused by an accumulation of excess cerebrospinal fluid. The condition can cause pressure inside the head and in the brain tissue, which leads to neurological complications that affect hearing, vision and balance.
For Joel, it was the balance problems that first alerted him that something was wrong.
“It was like being in a boat all the time,” he said.

While the singer and composer described his diagnosis as “disturbing”, he emphasized that he was not dealing with anything deadly.
“It was scary, but I’m fine,” said Joel. “I just wanted people to know that I don’t worry why I am ill or anything.”
The singer of “Uptown Girl” gave an equally optimistic tone while appearing in the episode of Monday of the podcast “Club Random”, where he told the host Bill Maher: “I feel good. They refer to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds much worse than I feel.”

In May, Joel’s team announced that he was canceling all the concert dates close to the advice of his doctors, but shared that he was “undergoing specific physiotherapy” for his health problem.
“Billy is grateful for the excellent attention he receives from fans during this time and eagerly waiting for the day he can take the stage,” the statement continued.
