Charlie Kirk dead after being shot at the Utah event
The right -wing activist Charlie Kirk, 31, died on Wednesday after being shot while talking at the University of Utah Valley.
President Donald Trump confirmed his death, announcing it on social networks.
“The great and even legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump wrote in Truth Social. “No one understood or had the heart of young people in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by all, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my sympathies come out with their beautiful wife Erika and his family. Charlie, we love you!”
Turning Point USA, the conservative non -profit organization of Kirk, also confirmed his death, asking people to respect the “privacy and dignity” of his family.

While a person of interest was arrested on Wednesday, the director of the FBI, Kash Patel, said that the person had been released after “an interrogation by the police.”
“Our research continues and we will continue to disseminate information in the interest of transparency,” Patel wrote in X.
Another person was also arrested on the campus, then released by a position of obstruction of justice. Utah authorities then clarified that neither had ties with the shooting.
The officials responsible for enforcing the law said that “they were able to track the movements of the shooter” and believe that the suspect is university age, but that they had not yet stopped anyone. At a press conference on Thursday morning, FBI officials said they thought they had recovered the weapon used in the shooting, as well as the “footwear impression, a palm footprint and forearm footprints for the analysis.”
Later, the FBI published photos of someone who the agency called a person of interest in the shooting and asked the public to help them identify them. In apparent safety image screenshots, the individual wears a hat, sunglasses and a black long -sleeved shirt with a graph that seems to include an American flag. It is not clear where the person is in the images.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Utah Spencer Cox (R) governor characterized Kirk’s death as a “political murder.”
“When someone takes away a person’s life due to his ideas or his ideals, that very constitutional base is threatened,” he continued, adding: “I don’t care what their policy is; I care that he was an American.”

In Kirk memory, Trump ordered that all US flags be reduced by half the staff until Sunday night.
The images of the incident in OEM, Utah, circulating online seem to show that Kirk is shot near his neck and bleeding profusely. The incident occurred approximately 20 minutes after Kirk began to speak.
Kirk was shot while asking a question about mass shootings in the United States, video programs video. When asked if he knew how many mass shootings there had been in the United States in recent years, Kirk asked the assistant: “Counting or not telling the violence of gangs?” They shot him immediately after.

The students immediately began to flee. The journalists in the desire News scene told CNN that it seemed that Kirk had lost a lot of blood “immediately.”
The authorities said at a press conference that the shooter shot “potentially from a roof” and that he was dressed in dark clothes. The investigation and a human hunt continued until Thursday, with the researchers of the crime scene combing multiple locations at the University and the FBI requesting advice from the public.

A petition had circulated before the event urging the conservative commentator and the executive director of Turning Point USA not to speak at the university.
In response to Kirk’s death, vice president JD Vance published: “Eternal rest is granted, oh Lord.”
Former President Joe Biden also extended his prayers, writing: “There is no place in our country for this type of violence. It must end now. Jill and I are praying for the family and loved ones of Charlie Kirk.”
Cox condemned the attack and said he is working with the FBI to take the shooter to justice.
“Violence does not take place in our public life,” he wrote on S Networks Ocial “Americans of each political persuasion must join to condemn this act.”

The representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.) was among the Democrats who said that Kirk’s shooting was part of a major problem.
“The scourge of armed violence and political violence must end. Charlie Kirk’s shooting is the last incident of this chaos and must stop,” he wrote on social networks.
Illinois governor JB Pritzker (D) said Trump must assume some responsibility for the recent wave of political violence.
“Political violence, unfortunately, has increased in this country,” he said, adding: “I think there are people who are promoting him in this country. I think the president’s rhetoric often encourages him.”
According to the Utah Valley University Police website, hidden transport is allowed on campus.
The University evacuated the campus on Wednesday afternoon and canceled the classes until Monday.

Kirk founded Turning Point USA almost a decade ago and became a right -wing favorite in a short time. He previously served as Trump’s assistant during Trump’s first presidency.
Kirk organized “The Charlie Kirk Show”, a program where right -wing views often adopted, often with links to white nationalist conspiracy. A report from the South Poverty Law Center in May pointed out that Kirk’s incursion into the right -wing policy began with its promotion of a “secular worldview” for conservatives who encouraged the separation of the Church and the State, but that changed, and its message began to align more with the extreme religious right.

Kirk launched Turning Point Faith in an effort to organize shepherds and churches in 2021, often combining Trumpist -style policy with their own messages.
Kirk was in university as part of a tour called “The American Comeback Tour”.
