Charlie Puth Addresses Criticism Before Super Bowl National Anthem Performance
Charlie Puth has vowed to deliver “one of my best vocal performances” at the Super Bowl next year after receiving criticism.
Puth, known worldwide for hits like “See You Again” and “Attention,” will perform the national anthem at the big game, which will take place on February 8, 2026 in Santa Clara, California. She will join a pregame lineup that also includes Brandi Carlile and Coco Jones.
However, as has become commonplace for all Super Bowl performances, news of Puth’s appearance generated some less than positive comments online. Among those expressing discontent with the election was Link Lauren, a conservative social media personality who served as an aide to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during his 2024 presidential campaign.
“Man, we fell for Whitney Houston singing at the Super Bowl,” Lauren wrote Monday on X. “Charlie Puth? I’m afraid he’s not going to give us a voice.”

About an hour and a half later, Puth weighed in with a rebuttal.
“I will never claim to be as good a singer as Whitney Houston was,” she wrote. “But I assure you that we are preparing a really special arrangement: in D major. It will be one of my best vocal performances.”
Puth’s comment was a nod to his “Professor Puth” TikTok video series, in which he discusses music theory, production techniques and the creative process behind some of his songs. In a clip shared on his social media platforms on Monday, he mocked his performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” with an intentionally cheeky analysis of the required vocal pitch.
Meanwhile, the NFL has no doubts about Puth’s talent. In a press release announcing his performance, officials called him “one of music’s most consistent hitmakers and one of its most sought-after collaborators across multiple genres.”
2026 is shaping up to be a prolific year for Puth, who is currently expecting his first child with wife Brooke Sansone. The singer-songwriter, whose name in 2024 was made famous by Taylor Swift in “The Tortured Poets’ Department,” will release his fourth studio album, “Whatever’s Clever!”, in March.
