Cher opens up about her 39-year-old boyfriends’ touching response to their huge age difference
Cher and her music executive boyfriend, Alexander “AE” Edwards, shares a kind of love that time cannot take away.
The 79-year-old singer and her 39-year-old partner began dating in late 2022, and despite their 40-year age difference, the “Believe” singer clearly believes that age is nothing more than a number.
“Nobody knows what’s going on between us, but we have a great time,” Cher said of their relationship during a “News Mornings” interview that aired Tuesday with Gayle King.
King then asked the artist if the age difference between the two had ever been an issue.
“No. Thank God,” she replied. “He just says, you know, ‘You’re getting older, but,’ he said, ‘your spirit is younger.’”
Cher explained that their bond is based on laughter and shared joy.
“We laugh all the time,” Cher said. “I just love him. I think he’s beautiful. He’s very talented. He’s one of the most talented people I’ve ever met.”

During their relationship, Cher also developed a close connection with Slash, Edwards’ 6-year-old son.
“I used to say, ‘God, give me a little boy and a man,’” he revealed to King, and he got “exactly” what he had prayed for.
King later expressed her own concerns about raising a young child at an older age, but Cher said she has no hesitation when it comes to her bond with Edwards’ son.
“It’s so funny. It’s so smart. It’s just a pleasure,” he concluded.

In a 2024 appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” Cher explained why she is often attracted to younger men.
“I’m very shy when I’m not working and a little shy around men, and the reason I date younger men is because men my age are older,” Cher revealed. “Well, they’re all dead now, but before they were always afraid to come near me, and the younger men were the only ones.”
