One click out of curiosity can reshape your feed for weeks. The solution is not to delete your accounts. You are retraining the system.

How social media algorithms decide what you see
Algorithms pay attention to behavior, not intent. They track engagement patterns and repeat what keeps you scrolling. If your feed isn’t working, it usually means the algorithm learned the wrong lesson. Resetting your feed helps correct that.
Note: This article is written for the desktop (PC or Mac) first. When a step is phone-only or significantly different on mobile, it is clearly labeled.
How to clean your Facebook feed
Primary device: PC or Mac. Telephone differences were noted.
Use Content Preferences to Retrain Facebook (PC or Mac)
Your Facebook feed is based on the people, Pages, and groups you follow, plus recommended content and ads.
- Click on your profile photo at the top right
- Select Settings & Privacy > Content Preferences
From here you can:
- Add people and groups to Favorites
- Snap posts temporarily
- Unfollow accounts without ceasing to be friends
- Reconnect with accounts that you silenced before
These tools are easier to manage on a desktop.
Filter your Feed view (PC or Mac)
- To skip the main algorithmic feed:
- Click Feeds in left navigation
- Choose to watch alone Favorites, Friends, Groupseither pages
This displays the content chronologically within those categories.
Hide and flag posts on the go (PC, Mac, and phone)
On any post in your Facebook feed:
- Click three point menu at the top right of the post
- Choose Hide post, Snapeither Unfollowdepending on what appears
Hiding posts and snoozing or unfollowing accounts send the same signal to the algorithm. Use these options frequently. Facebook responds more reliably to repeated negative comments than to occasional clicks.
For suggested posts and reels, you can also see Not interested. Selecting it zooms out the feed of similar content even further.
Reduce ads and sensitive topics (PC, Mac and phone)
When ads appear:
- Click unknown to hide them
- Or use the three point menu hide or inform
For deeper control:
- Gonna Settings and Privacy > Settings
- Open Account Center
- Click Ad Preferences > Customize Ads
- Select See all next to Ad Themes
- Click View and manage themes
- Click theme name
- Choose see less
- Repeat this to each topic you want to limit.
To block specific words in comments:
- Click on your profile photo (top right on desktop)
- Settings and privacy → Settings
- In the left column, click Profile and Tagging
- Under “Profile,” look for Hide comments that contain certain words from your profile and click the arrow next to it.
- Choose a list of words, phrases, or emojis that you want to hide from your profile and type them in the box.
- Click Save under him.

How to clean your Instagram feed
Primary device: phone only
Currently, Instagram does not offer a universal and reliable option to reset its algorithm. Feed control on Instagram is manual and behavior-based. That means the app learns from what you hide, mute, unfollow, and ignore.
Tell Instagram what you don’t want to see (phone)
In posts that miss the mark:
- Touch the three point menu
- Select Not interested, Mute either Unfollowdepending on what appears
Use this constantly. Instagram responds more to repeated signals than to specific actions.
Adjust who appears in your feed (phone)
Visit accounts directly and tap Following to manage how your content is displayed.
From here you can:
- Mute posts or stories
- Add or remove Favorites
- Restrict interactions
- Unfollow the check
These actions immediately influence future recommendations.
Review controls at the account (phone) level
Open Settings and review:
- Muted accounts
- Blocked accounts
- close friends
Cleaning up these lists helps reduce clutter and repetitive content.
When a new Instagram account makes sense
If your feed is still not working after manual cleanup, starting over is the most effective reset.
To do this:
- Sign out and create a new account
- Follow only accounts you really want to see
- Avoid massive following during setup
The Instagram algorithm is heavily influenced by early behavior, so a slow, intentional start is important.
Some users may hear about an Instagram “reboot” feature, but as of now, it is not available consistently across all accounts.
Adjust who you see (phone)
Touch the three point menu in publications for stop following either favorite accounts.
From any profile, tap Following to:
- Add Close friend
- Add Favorite
- Mute posts or stories
- Restrict interactions
Unfollow
Low Settingsreview:
- Muted accounts
- Blocked accounts

How to reset your TikTok page for you
Primary device: phone only
Train feeding gradually (phone)
- Press and hold a video
- Tap Not interested
Consistency matters here.
Delete previous likes (phone)
- Gonna Profile
- Touch the heart icon
- Unlike videos that may be influencing recommendations.
Refresh entire feed (phone only)
- Tap Profile
- Touch the three line menu
- Gonna Settings & Privacy > Content Preferences
- Tap Update your feed for you
- Confirm
This resets the recommendations but keeps the following list.
For a hard reset, unfollow accounts manually or start over with a new account.

How to reset YouTube recommendations
Primary device: PC recommended
Clear or limit watch history (PC, Mac, and phone)
On mobile:
- Tap You
- Touch the gear icon
- Select Manage all history
- Tap DELETE
On the desktop:
- Click on your profile photo
- Select Your data on YouTube
- Open YouTube Watch History
- Click Manage history
- Click DELETE
From here you can:
- Delete today
- Delete custom range
- Delete all the time
Delete comments from previous feeds
Primary device: PC or Mac
It is easier to access these settings from a computer.
- Gonna youtube.com and make sure you are logged in
- Click on your profile photo at the top right
- Select Your data on YouTube
- Scroll to the section labeled YouTube Watch History and click on the right arrow
- Click Manage your YouTube watch history
- Click Save your watch history
On the history page:
- Scroll down until you see YouTube personalize your comments
- Click Delete to remove previous comment selections
This removes videos that you previously told YouTube you wanted to see more of.

Continue training feed (PC, Mac and phone)
In individual YouTube videos:
- Click or tap the three point menu next to the video
- Select Not interested
Repeat this on videos that miss the mark. YouTube relies heavily on repeated feedback signals. This option is not always available in the YouTube mobile app. Use a computer for best results.
Reset subscriptions (PC, Mac and phone)
Subscriptions greatly influence recommendations. Unsubscribe from channels you no longer watch. Rebuild your list intentionally.

How to reduce noise in X
Primary device: PC preferred
Adjust interests and ads (PC, Mac, and phone)
- Click on your profile icon.
- Gonna Settings and privacy
- Click Privacy and security
- Select Content you see
- Open Interests
Here, X lists the topics he thinks you are interested in.
- Uncheck interests you don’t care anymore
- There is no “unselect all” option.
- Changes must be made one by one.
This affects both recommended posts and ads.
Adjust ad personalization settings (PC, Mac, and phone)
This is where “Ad Preferences” really reside.
- Click or tap your profile icon
- Gonna Settings and privacy
- Select Privacy and security
- Scroll down and click Ad preferences
From here:
- Turn off Personalized ads
- Review Ad Categories and disable what you can
- Turn off Inferred Identity Based Adsyes show
X does not allow complete removal of ads, but these steps reduce targeting.
Train streaming on the go (PC, Mac and Phone)
In posts or ads you don’t want to see again:
- Click or tap the three point menu
- Choose Not interested, Blockeither Mutedepending on what appears
- Also:
- Unfollow accounts that no longer provide value
- Block advertisers directly when possible
Repeated feedback matters more than occasional actions.
When it makes sense to start a new account
X’s algorithm is less forgiving than most platforms. If your feed seems beyond repair, the most effective reset is:
- Creating a new account
- Only follow the accounts you really want
- Avoid dough from the beginning
Early behavior greatly influences long-term recommendations. X offers fewer power controls than most platforms, so changes may seem slower and less dramatic.

Use hidden words (PC and phone)
- Open Settings
- Gonna hidden words
- Add words, phrases or emojis separated by commas
These filters are applied on Threads and Instagram.
How to make LinkedIn useful again
Primary device: PC recommended
Switch to recent posts (PC and Mac)
- At the top of your feed, click Sort by: Top
- Change it to Recent
- To make it permanent:
- Gonna Me
- Click Settings and Privacy
- Select Preferred feed view
- Choose Most recent publications
- Click left arrow keep
Reduce ad targeting (PC and Mac)
- Gonna Settings and privacy
- Open Advertising data
- Select Interests and traits
- Turn off categories you don’t want
Aggressively train the feed (PC, Mac and phone)
In spam posts:
- Click three point menu
- Select Not relevant or Not interested
- Low my networkreview Followers and followers and stop following accounts that add noise.
