CNN anchor inhales something in the air during intense moment at Minneapolis protest
cnn Laura Coates was reporting live from a protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis, Minnesotain Thursday when things got pretty dangerous.

Protests began to sweep across the city after a ICE agent shot to death and killed Renee Good, 37, on Wednesday. The Department of Homeland Security has characterized the mother as one of several “violent rioters” that they were blocking ICE officers during a targeted operation, and that she “turned her vehicle into a weapon” in an attempt to run over an officer. Videos of the incident.However, they indicate that Good was attempting to back up his car and flee the scene when an officer shot him several times. Due to DHS statements about the incident and images widely posted on social media by witnesses telling two completely different stories, many people are outraged.

After showing viewers remnants of pepper spray balls staining the street and protesters carrying milk containers, Coates went on to describe the scene of the protest.
“The tension here is palpable,” Coates reported. “People are upset. They are forced to come here. They don’t trust that there will be an independent investigation.”

After pointing out a few more details of the chaos that was unfolding, ICE agents began to swarm the protesters.
“We have them coming out right now: ICE agents coming down, guns drawn right now,” Coates continued. “They’re spraying something in the air right now. People are worried. I’ll get closer right now. Here we go.”
A moment later, Coates began coughing.
“There’s something in the air right now that’s making me cough a little bit,” Coates said as he began to detect the pepper spray. He then noticed the ICE agents getting even closer to the protesters.
“Since I’ve been here, they haven’t gotten that close,” Coates said. “You can see that they are all masked. They are angry. They are asking [protestors] for [their] milk right now.”
He continued calmly describing the scene.

“We have people around right now, about 40 ICE agents that are here in the area. There’s something in the air that makes you cough a little bit. [ICE agents] They are retreating right now as the crowd gets closer and closer. They are retreating in a single line, holding the line as they walk at this time. There are people who are nearby and keep shouting,” he said.
Throughout the video, protesters could be heard chanting “Shame!” and “Take off your masks!” while others shouted “Fuck you!”
Coates continued: “It’s so intense right now. It’s happening. They’re backing up now, behind the distance while the crowd is there… They’re shooting some kind of pellets! The gas’s gone down right now. Let’s back off a little more. It’s in the air.”

At the time, Kasie Hunt, who was watching the footage from a CNN studio, told Coates: “Just let us know if you need to move to a safe place right now.”
But Coates collapsed when she began coughing even more.
“There’s been tear gas. People are coughing. It’s in the air,” Coates exclaimed. “How it feels: It feels a little like you’re choking in your chest and it feels like you’re trying to catch your breath. Your nasal passages swell. It’s a burning sensation in your chest. It’s also a burning sensation in your nasal passages. I’m not going to go any further now, but it does: it makes you cough.”
After jotting down a few more details, Coates described protesters’ reactions to being attacked with tear gas.
“People are agitated,” he said. “They are angry and now they have been tear gassed once again.”
