Cole Escola is clarifying his headline reindeer about “four more years” in response to the triumph of Nicole Scherzinger at the Tony Awards on Sunday.

On Tuesday, “Oh, Mary!” Star shared an Instagram story in which they shrunk from the involvement that his comment was intended for Scherzinger, who currently stars in the rebirth of “Sunset Boulevard” on Broadway.

“When I made that joke … When I said: ‘Four more years, four more years,’ I said it as, ‘Well, she won, she is the one we have during the next four years,” as if I thought that winning the best main actress in a musical is the same as winning a presidential choice, “Escola explained.

They continued observing: “But you know, people just want to face Broadway girls, and I think it’s sad. I really think it’s sad.”

On Sunday, Escola became the first openly non -binary artist to win the Tony for Best Actor in a play for his interpretation of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln in “Oh, Mary!” In Broadway. Scherzinger, meanwhile, emerged as the winner of the best main actress observed in a musical career for his performance of “Sunset Boulevard”.

Upon learning of Scherzinger’s victory, Escola joked the journalists in Tonys’s press room, “four more years!”

Many quickly interpreted the comment as a nod to the controversy that followed after Scherzinger, a devoted Catholic, commented in a photo of Instagram of Comedian Russell Brand in a hat “to make Jesus first” the past fall, as well as other publications on social networks that seemed to support President Donald Trump.

Scherzinger later issued an apology, and pointed out that “he made the mistake of not realizing that they could easily be interpreted as politically related and apologized to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion.”

“Many presumptions are being drawn, which do not reflect who I am, what I defend or who I voted for,” he added. “Many of the marginalized communities feel injured and worried about the results of the presidential elections are people who care more. I am with them, as I have always done, throughout my life and my career. If you know me, you know it.”
