What are beta blockers?
Dr. Daniel Amen, a psychiatrist, a specialist in brain images and founder of Amen Clinics in California, said in an interview with News Digital that beta blockers are medications that “calm the response to body stress.”
In his own practice, Amen said that he always begins with “natural techniques” to relieve stress and anxiety. This may include diaphragmatic breathing, meditation, hypnosis and full attention.

“But sometimes his nervous system still annuls his best coping strategies,” he said. “That’s where beta blockers can be incredibly useful.”
The pill works by blocking the effects of adrenaline, which then reduces heart rate, breathing stability and reduces physical anxiety symptoms, including racing thoughts, unstable hands and a beaten heart.
“Used responsible, beta blockers are an effective low -risk tool that helps many people live quieter and more safe lives.”
“When your body thinks you are under attack, beta blockers help to calm the ‘false alarms’ in your nervous system,” said Amen.
“They do not sediment or cloud your thought,” he said. “On the other hand, they return your body control, so that your mind can catch up.”

“For many people, they are like hitting the ‘Pause’ button in the fight or flight response, so you can think more clearly and play at your best.”
The psychiatrist added that beta blockers are also commonly used for migraines, tremors, heart rate problems and to protect the heart after a cardiovascular event.
