Cuomo stays in the New York Mayor’s career as a candidate for third parties
Former New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that It will be applied for the Mayor of New York City as a third -party candidate after his Democratic primary defeat last month.
In a campaign video on Monday, Cuomo said he will remain in the race after admitting the Democratic ticket to the Member of the Zohran Mamdani Assembly. The Democratic socialist won the city’s primaries at 12 percentage points after a surprise of a week of a surveys.
“As my grandfather used to say, when they tear you down, learn the lesson and go up again and return to the game and that is what I am going to do,” says Cuomo in the video.
Cuomo reasoned that only 13% of New Yorkers voted in the June primaries and criticized Mamdani as offering “slippery slogans, but not real solutions.”
“I’m in him to win it,” he says in the video.
Of the total of 5.1 million voters from New York City, 3.3 million are registered in the Democratic Party, although less than 1 million of them voted in the primary of last month, according to the City Board. The city, which has a population of approximately 8.5 million, tends to have a low electoral participation.
Cuomo will appear on the tickets under the party of “struggle and delivery” that he created as a backup plan earlier this year, according to the Wall Street Journal. The party aims to “appeal to disappointed Democrats, as well as independents and republicans,” said his campaign in May.

“While Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams shoot on themselves to make deals in the rear rooms with billionaires, we are focused on fighting to work the New York,” he said during an appearance with a local musicians union.
Cuomo had dominated his primary Democratic competitors for months in the polls and was widely seen as the favorite. However, he was left behind from Mamdani only a few weeks before the elementary school of June, with Mamdani receiving an avalanche of base donations and new supporters, including democratic socialist companions Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (Dn.y.) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT.).
According to reports, Cuomo has promised that if he is not the best challenger of Mamdani in early September, two months before the November 4 elections, he will leave the race. He will also encourage the other challengers, including his independent partner Jim Walden, to do the same, said three people familiar with their decisions to the New York Times.
