Democratic senator is painfully clear about who will pay Trump’s price
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) was blunt about which Americans will pay the ultimate price for the U.S. pursuit of regime change in Iran during a scathing appearance Sunday morning on News’ “Face the Nation.”
Following the start of joint combat operations by the United States and Israel early Saturday, Murphy accused President Donald Trump of risking the lives of American soldiers for a war that “no one in this country is asking for.”
“It won’t be Donald Trump’s billionaire children and their friends who will die,” Murphy told Margaret Brennan. “It will be the children of poor and middle-class families across this country who will die because of a war of choice, a war of vanity, an illegal war.”

Trump seemed indifferent to the prospects for American casualties as he addressed military action against Iran in an eight-minute video posted to Truth Social on Saturday morning.
“The lives of brave American heroes may be lost and we may have casualties, which often happens in war,” he said of the operations, which U.S. Central Command said had killed three U.S. soldiers and “seriously wounded” five others in a statement Sunday.

Murphy, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called the White House’s dreams of democratizing and disarming Iran more than unrealistic, and reminded Brennan how Trump’s own intelligence agencies have said that the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other senior members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps will only allow a more militant faction to take power.
“We are not going to achieve democracy, we are going to have an even worse Iranian leadership,” said the senator. “We’re going to have Americans dying, and the end result is that the hardline leadership continues in Iran and we don’t get rid of its nuclear program. That’s a moral and strategic disaster for the country.”
