Kyiv said on Monday that Russia was linked to the Weekend murder of a Pro Western Ukrainian politician after arrest of a suspect allegedly having carried out the shooting disguised as messaging.

Andriy Parubiy, a former speaker of Parliament and the main figure in the pro -European protest movements of Ukraine of 2004 and 2014, was shot dead on Saturday in the western city of Lvvv, near the EU and the NATO member, Poland.

Police said the suspect, whose arrest was announced early Monday, shot Parubiy eight times in broad daylight before fleeing the scene.

“We know that this crime was not accidental. There is a Russian trail on it,” said National Police Chief Ivan Vygivsky in a position on social networks.

Vygivsky attached two photos of the arrest, showing a man without a shirt arrested by officers with military uniform in what seemed to be an apartment.

The sources within the application agencies of the Ukraine Law told the News themezone BBC News partner that the attacker had dressed to look like a worker of the Glovo Delivery Company. The company said it was “deeply shocked” by crime and would fully cooperate with an investigation.

The Interior Minister said previously that the murder had been carefully planned, echoing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy said that Interior Minister Igor Klymenko, and the head of the Vasyl Maliuk security service had informed him about the arrest.

In a later position after talking with Chief Prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko, he added: “The suspect has given an initial testimony.

“Klymenko said that dozens of police officers and security officers had been involved in the arrest in the Khmelnytsky region in western Ukraine.

“I will only say that the crime was carefully prepared: the schedule of the movements of the deceased was studied, the route was placed and an escape plan was thought.”

Some previous tributes from Ukrainian officials to Parubiy, who was still a member of Parliament, hinted at Russian participation.

From Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine began in 2022, both parties have accused murder of political and military figures.

The Russian state media said Parubiy has been sought by the Russian authorities since 2023.

Parubiy, who had studied history, had campaigned for the independence of Ukraine of the Soviet Union.

He was also an important defender of the use of the Ukrainian language about Russian.

During the protests of Maidan of 2014, it was a “commander” of the opposition self -defense forces.

The demonstrations led to the expulsion of the pro-Kremlin leadership of Ukraine and precipitated a separatist survey backed by Moscow in the east of the country.
