An online trend is to bring coffee in the morning to a completely new level, since some people on social networks are carrying out “coffee enemas”.

An enema is a medical procedure that involves injecting a solution into the rectum and the lower part of the colon (the large intestine), according to Rosario Ligresti, MD, chief of gastroenterology at the Medical Center of the University of Hackensack in New Jersey.

“The main objective is to stimulate an intestinal movement, but it can also be used to administer medications or for diagnosis purposes,” Digital News told News.

The daily consumption of coffee linked to the main health benefits in women as they age, the study finds

A coffee eme is a type of colon cleaning used in alternative medicine, under the assumption that the absorption of coffee compounds will trigger the liver to detoxify the body, Lighti said.

This practice, which became popular in the 1920s and 1930s, is a central component of the “Gerson Therapy”, an alternative cancer treatment, according to the doctor.

“Interestingly, one of my patients asked me about [coffee enemas]”Ligresti shared.

The procedure is similar to a normal enema, except that water is mixed with coffee with caffeine and rinses in the colon through the rectum.

The mixture of coffee water remains in the colon for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the body to absorb the compounds through the intestinal wall before expelling the liquid.

The popular coffee alternative can help prevent cancer, experts say

Enemas have been used as detoxification tools in ancient Egyptian, Greek and Ayurvedic practices, “but the use of coffee specifically is a more modern adaptation,” said Mona Sharma, a nutritionist, welfare entrepreneur of Los Angeles and member of the IFIT Sciences Council.

“In my practice, I have worked with customers who say they feel energized, clear or lighter after a coffee enema,” Sharma told News Digital. “That said, this is not my first option for detoxification.”

He pointed out that the experiences of his clients are “anecdotal and not supported by conclusive clinical research.”

Ligresti confirmed that there are no scientifically proven health benefits to make a coffee enema.

“The idea that enemas can ‘detoxify’ the body is a myth,” he said. “The liver and kidneys are the natural detoxification systems of the body.”

As a welfare defender, Sharma said he also believes in supporting the “natural intelligence” of the body.

“The idea that enemas can ‘detoxify’ the body is a myth.”

“Our organs are incredibly capable of self -accurate when we feed them correctly,” he said.

Sharma recommends “friendly with detoxification” practices such as green leafy vegetables, bitter herbs and ground connection to “help our systems to do what were designed to do: heal, repair and prosper.”

Potential risks

The risks of using a coffee enema are well documented, Ligresti warned, including burns and infections derived from the introduction of hot coffee to the sensitive areas of the body.

It is even possible an overdose of caffeine after absorbing a toxic amount, which can lead to anxiety, heart palpitations and, in severe cases, seizures or death, according to the expert.

While some people experience short -term benefits, agreeing to Sharma, Enemas coffee have potential risks, “especially for those with intestinal disorders, hemorrhoids, heart problems or electrolytic imbalances.”

“According to the current medical evidence and consensus of the main health organizations, no one should consider a coffee enema,” Ligresti advised.

Experts agree that only traditional enemas, and subsequent injected solutions are safe medical tools to treat constipation and prepare the intestine for procedures under the guidance of a health professional.

If someone still chooses to explore this therapy, Sharma recommends doing it only under the supervision of a connoisseur practitioner who can monitor deficiencies or complications.
