During what is often announced as the “greatest night of culture” in June, the rapper took a rare live TV opportunity to call the controversial deployment of Trump of thousands of national guard troops in Los Angeles to suppress protests for repression of administration’s immigration.

On a cover story of July 10 for British Vogue, Doechii opened on the moment and why he chose to speak.

“I’m not so insensitive, and he felt good,” he said about his speech. “I felt that I needed to use that moment, and they were live, so it wasn’t shit they could do about it.”

Before even entering the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, said the rapper, he witnessed protesters who gathered outside, a view that stirred her to act. She told Vogue that remaining silent was not an option.

While Doechii said it was “honest” to receive the best hip hop artist, his first bet, the night had a deeper resonance for her, one in which they collided art and activism.
