After joining the Internet crucifixion of Timothée Chalamet After saying that “no one cares” about ballet and opera, Doja Cat is now walking back her criticism.

The rapper criticized the actor in a since-deleted Tuesday TikTok video, only to express remorse in a follow-up Wednesday TikTok video, telling his more than 27 million followers that he made his initial comments “in the heat of the moment.”

“I’m going to come out and say I don’t know anything about opera. I don’t know anything about ballet,” Doja Cat clarified. “But in no way do I look like a real professional dancer… I’ve never been to a ballet.”

“I’ve never seen an opera,” he continued. “And yesterday I took it upon myself to give it to the man because there is a culture based on outrage and things like that and people want to feel part of something. It’s a need to connect, whether it’s good or bad.”

Doja Cat explained that she changed her mind after watching a TikTok video by an anonymous man who is “well versed in opera.” She said the TikTok user analyzed Chalamet’s response in a way that made her adjust her opinion.

Noting that although he believes Chalamet made his comments “wrong,” he now believes what the actor said is true, adding: “Opera and ballet are really [an] ancient art form, and it is a dying industry.”

“What I was doing yesterday was virtue signaling because I wanted to connect and I knew that Timothée’s mistake was something I could exploit to get people to connect with me and screw me,” Doja Cat admitted. “And it’s easy. It’s a modern way to get clicks, likes, approval and all kinds of things like that from people. So I did it yesterday, and I didn’t really think about why I was doing it.”

The songwriter also confessed that she made the video in an attempt to “appear sincere” to her audience on social media.

Doja Cat said she regrets sharing her thoughts.

“I wanted to be congratulated like everyone else pats themselves on the back in the comments sections. And I wanted to look like a hero, and that’s what happened. And when I got it, I didn’t like it so much.”

She told her followers that she’s “not proud” of her previous video,” adding, “It just reinforces the fact that sometimes I think shit and then I’m like, it doesn’t matter. So it doesn’t matter.”

Chalamet’s comments in question came during a CNN and Variety event in Austin, Texas, alongside Matthew McConaughey last month.

“I don’t want to work in ballet or opera where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this alive, even though no one cares anymore,’” Chalamet told McConaughey. He quickly added: “All due respect to the ballet and opera people. Damn, I took pictures for no reason.”

Social media users quickly rallied to burn him online, including multiple ballet and opera companies such as the Los Angeles Opera and London’s Royal Ballet and Opera.
