Folk Rockstar says Trump voters were scammed
On the heels of taking the stage for a Super Bowl LX pregame performance earlier this month, Brandi Carlile is delivering a message to people who voted for Trump.
Following her performance Saturday at the Target Center in Minneapolis in support of The Advocates for Human Rights of Minnesota, which has aimed to support families affected by ICE arrests, the musician stated rolling stone that Trump supporters have been “scammed.”
“You got scammed. We’re living in a time of scams,” he told the outlet backstage right after his performance. “That’s what people do. You can’t even pick up the phone without getting scammed. It doesn’t mean you have to double down.”
Carlile made these comments after telling Rolling Stone a story about the time a door-to-door salesman tricked her into buying an expensive vacuum cleaner. The songwriter said she took the bait because he treated her like “someone important” during a financially difficult time in his life.
“That doesn’t mean you have to pay for the fucking vacuum cleaner,” he said of voters who were misled by Trump. “And I think there are a lot of people right now who feel cheated and embarrassed. What they need to feel is anger. They need to get angry and change their mind.”
Urging people to “get over the shame” and “embarrassment” of being “deceived by a scammer”, he asked them to “get angry enough to change your mind”.

Stating that “it is very clear that this administration is not interested in legal immigration,” Carlile then accused the Trump administration of being “interested in violent theater.”
“Violent theater and domination over other people,” he added. “I don’t think most people signed up for that. Even the people who voted for Trump, who I’m angry with, I don’t think they voted for this, and I think they can still change their minds.”
The “Crowded Table” singer’s comments came after Minnesota became the center of a political crisis in recent months. Earlier this year, the Trump administration launched a major wave of immigration enforcement in the area by deploying thousands of federal agents.
The controversial measure sparked widespread chaotic arrests, protests, and multiple fatal shootings of American citizens at the hands of federal agents.
Last week, White House border czar Tom Homan announced that the Trump administration’s ICE immigration surge in Minneapolis has “ended” and that there would be a reduction of agents in the area.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey defended himself against Homan’s claims.
“It certainly hasn’t stopped,” Frey said in an interview Thursday. “I completely understand why people are so nervous.”
