Former and current NHL star Sarah Palin Beau blames the team
Former New York Rangers hockey star Ron Duguay said he predicted the team would lose on Pride Night because of the “bad charm” created by the promotion.
Duguay, the old boyfriend of former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, melted down on Monday when the Rangers fell to the Los Angeles Kings, 4-1, at Madison Square Garden.
“I didn’t want to say it before the game, but I saw him coming tonight down 4-1 after singing the national anthem. [rainbow] flag to a small group, bad idea, bad charm,” he wrote in the now-deleted post that was shared by the Toronto Sun in a screenshot.
“I don’t blame the entire Rangers organization. It’s just a select few kids with college brains and wokeness who impose their agenda on others in the organization.”

Bleacher Report hockey writer Adam Herman noted that the Rangers, who sit last in points in the Eastern Conference, have consistently been victorious on Pride Night. He gave a more solid reason for his setback.
“Maybe this year’s team lost because they lose most games,” he wrote.

Duguay has much more pressing matters to attend to than insulting LGBTQ+ hockey fans. He recently announced that he has stage 4 cancer.
But his words carry weight for some fans. After concluding his playing career from 1977-89, he served as a television analyst for the Rangers on MSG for 12 years until 2018.
Before Monday’s game, he criticized the team for giving away a Pride Night bag to the first 10,000 spectators.
Duguay complained that the promotion was “encouraging the transgender lifestyle” in a post he left.
The NHL’s effort to recognize the gay community has faced criticism in the past.
Perhaps Duguay should follow the example of U.S. Olympic hockey hero Jack Hughes, who scored the game-winning goal in overtime in Team USA’s gold medal game last month.
Hughes, who plays for the New Jersey Devils, said in a 2024 interview: “The team I play for… we really support it. We’re a very welcoming organization… Obviously, the way we grew up, my family really supports it as well.”
