California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) made a stark prediction about what he believes will be the fate of Donald Trump’s presidency after the 2026 midterm elections.

Speaking with MS NOW’s Jen Psaki on Wednesday’s edition of “The Briefing with Jen Psaki,” Newsom criticized the president after Psaki mentioned that there has recently been “a lot of outrage” among Trump’s MAGA base over his administration’s handling of the Epstein files, as well as Trump’s “doubling down on tariffs.”

Asked if Newsom believes anything has “changed” since Trump faced criticism from his own supporters, the governor responded by declaring that Trump’s presidency will “de facto end” when the Democratic Party wins the election in November.

“Even if [Trump and his supporters] fell out, he is the president of the United States for the next three years. Good news, it’s temporary. It’s only three years. And the presidency as we know it will de facto end in November, when we take back the gavel and the President [Hakeem] “Jeffries becomes the next speaker, as long as we stay tuned,” the Democratic governor told Psaki.

Newsom accused Trump of using “suppression tactics” to try to position the midterm elections in his favor through “nationalization.”[ing] federal elections”, “vandalism[ing] free and fair elections”, “pursuing [the] vote by mail [process]”, and “send the masked ones [federal agents] throughout this country.”

The governor added: “He is a reality and we cannot turn our backs on that reality.”

Moving on to discuss NPR’s Tuesday report alleging that the Justice Department withheld and deleted more than 50 Trump-related Epstein files, Newsom argued, “There’s a reason he single-handedly worked so hard to make sure they were never released…Period.”

After Psaki questioned what the motive was, Newsom responded that it is “to be determined.”

Calling the NPR story “pretty alarming,” he continued: “Here’s what’s most alarming and this is my biggest concern: There’s a chance that we can’t [ever] “I know it for a reason.”

Telling Psaki that she can imagine Trump “pardoning half the damn administration” and “things disappearing” in “[his] exit,” he stressed, “we have to be aware of it. We need to be attentive to that. This is Don’s rule. It’s the rule of the jungle. There is no rule of law.”

Newsom added: “Courts are obstacles [to Trump]they are not stop signs. Try to solve them. “He doesn’t believe in equal government powers.”

At the beginning of the interview, Newsom referred to Trump as a “broken man” and added, “that’s why I think he tried to destroy our country.”
