New York (AP) – Former United States representative, George Santos, “still does not regret” while facing federal prison for fraud and identity theft, federal prosecutors say, citing a diatribe of their publications on social networks in recent days.
Prosecutors, in a legal presentation on Thursday, reinforced their arguments for a rigid sentence, saying that the 36 -year -old New York Republican has belittled the United States Department of Justice as a “pedophile clique” and presented himself as a victim of the exaggeration of the prosecutor in multiple positions on the social platform X.
“This conduct is antithetical to” genuine remorse “claimed by Santos’s lawyers,” prosecutors wrote. “Their actions speak stronger than any word, and shout by a significant prison sentence in this case.”

Santos’s lawyers did not immediately respond to an email in search of comments.
The bombing of social networks began on April 4 after the prosecutors and Santos lawyers presented their judgment notes to a judge for their consideration during their April 25 judgment in the Federal Court of Long Island.
“It doesn’t matter how hard the Department of Justice is, they are angry because they will never break my spirit,” Santos wrote in a publication.
In another exchange on X, he denied having used campaign contributions to buy Hermès luxury products, which prosecutors notice specifically mentioned in judicial documents.
“Even at this late stage, he simply refuses to completely possess his actions,” they wrote in their presentation on Thursday, which included screenshots of publications on social networks.
Prosecutors are looking for a seven -year prison sentence for Santos, saying that their “incomparable crimes” had “mocked” from the country’s electoral system.
They have also suggested that he has a “high probability of recidivism” since he has not lost any of his battered earnings or has paid any of the victims.
Meanwhile, Santos’s lawyers have sought a two -year prison sentence, which is the minimum mandatory sentence for aggravated identity theft.
The lawyers argue that Santos has no previous criminal record and that such a sentence is in line with those delivered to the former American representative Jesse Jackson Jr. and other political figures that faced similar financial crimes.
Santos admitted in August that he cheated the voters, cheated the donors and stole the identities of almost a dozen people, including their own family members, to make donations to their Congress campaign.
As part of the guilt agreement, it agreed to pay almost $ 375,000 in restitution and $ 205,000 in confiscation.
Santos was chosen in 2022 to represent parts of Queens and Long Island, but served just a year in office before being expelled by his colleagues from the house, the sixth in the history of the camera.
The political disappearance of the Republican that once was in motion occurred after it was revealed that he had manufactured much of his life story, which led to questions about how political policy had financed his winning campaign.

Santos appeared as a rich business man who worked in the prestigious Wall Street companies and had a valuable real estate portfolio when he was actually fighting financially and even faced eviction.
