Sophia Forchas, who was shot in the head during the massive shooting in the Catholic Church Annunciation in Minneapolis on August 27, is constantly recovering.
On behalf of the Family Forchas, Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis issued a statement on Monday with an update on the progress of the 12 -year -old boy.
“Sophia is winning!” His family shared. “Your prayers are working.”

“On behalf of our whole family, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to all close and distant, for continuous prayers, the effusion of love and tremendous support for our beautiful Sophia.”
The statement continued: “We humble ourselves the innumerable people around the world who have raised it in prayer, including its Orthodox patriarch of a lifetime Bartholomew and their Holiness Pope Leo XIV.”

The Forchas family echoed that the survival of his daughter of “horrible attack” is a “miracle”, and that his healing process has also been “nothing less than miraculous.”
“Every day, we discovered new revelations of moments and circumstances that kept it alive and made it possible for their recovery to be possible,” they wrote. “God has heard our prayers and wrapped Sophia in his curative hug.”
‘I can’t see it’: deal with the trauma of seeing someone
According to a Facebook publication of the Greek Orthodox Church of Santa María in Minneapolis, written by p. Timothy sas on the day of the shooting, Forchas circulated “immediately” after being seriously injured.
Forchas, whose family has been “dedicated members” of the Congregation of Santa María, then went through a “difficult and long surgery” and remained in a “critical situation,” said the post.

Forchas’ neurosurgeon, Dr. Walt Galcich said a bullet stayed in the head of the seventh grade student, causing serious damage, as reported by AP.
In this most recent update, the family reported that Forchas has continued to make “constant progress”, showing signs of neurological recovery.
Forcha doctors are still “cautiously optimistic” while their medical team prepares to make acute care at the Hennepin County Medical Center to a hospital rehabilitation program.

“Although it still has a long trip ahead, full of wide therapy, its resistance continues to inspire hope in each step,” the family updated.
“Sophia is strong, brave and unwavering in her struggle towards healing. We ask her to continue praying for her while walking this way to recovery.”

The Forchas family extended thanks to the “extraordinary staff of Hennepin Healthcare in HCMC for its tireless dedication and world -class care.”
“For our extended family, the Orthodox Church, our Family of the Annunciation School, our friends and colleagues, and the many strangers who have become prayer warriors for Sophia, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” the family said.

“Please continue praying. Pray for peace and when you pray, move our feet. We worship God and walk forward with faith, hope and love. Together, we can create a better tomorrow.”
A Gofundme page created for Sophia said Sophia’s younger brother was inside the school during the shooting, but was not physically injured.

Sophia’s mother is a pediatric critical care nurse who was working at Hennepin Healthcare when she discovered that her daughter was among the wounds, according to AP.
During the first mass of the school year, the identified shooter Robin Westman fired dozens of rounds to the church, destroying the windows of stained glass and banks while students and terrified parishioners crouched down to cover themselves.

Two children, Fletcher Merkel and Harper Moyski, were killed, and 18 people, 15 of them children, were injured.
