Roger Stone, a longtime ally of Donald Trump, explained Monday why Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado should present the president with the Nobel Peace Prize that was recently awarded to him.

Stone told the right-wing network Real America’s Voice that he is “not happy” that the Nobel Peace Prize Committee chose Machado to receive the coveted award. In choosing Machado, the body cited his promotion of the democratic rights of Venezuelans and his efforts to combat the country’s authoritarian government.

“The right thing would be for her to ask, or maybe for Marco Rubio to ask her, if President Trump can give her the award and then she should give it back to the president,” Stone said.

“He deserves this award even though I thought those elitist globalist monsters at the Nobel Peace Prize Committee probably wouldn’t give it to him.”

Stone, who was convicted of seven felonies in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and later sentenced to 40 months in prison, suggested that Barack Obama should not have received the Nobel Peace Prize, adding that Machado should consider “awarding” the president the prize.

Machado’s victory on Friday has not quelled calls for Trump to be chosen for the coveted award, with the president questioning whether the committee could have made an “exception” and considered his perceived achievements in 2025.

Trump and his allies have used the recent US-brokered ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza to further advance their case to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Following the committee’s announcement on Friday, Machado took to social media where he dedicated the award to the “suffering people of Venezuela” and Trump for his “decisive support for our cause.”
