The governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz (D), criticized President Donald Trump about his newly announced tariffs, calling his outdated and harmful economic approach.

Appearing on Wednesday “All in Chris Hayes” of MSNBC, the former vice presidential candidate warned that Trump’s commercial war would have serious consequences for the Americans who work.

Calling the effect of “inconceivable” radical tariffs, Walz wondered why Trump seems so obsessed with the policies of a past era.

“You almost have to be an amateur psychologist in this,” he told Hayes. “It’s as if Trump was caught in the 80s. His music, his clothes, his thinking.”

The governor dismissed the president’s long data to the tariffs and argued that they simply do not work.

“All economists, conservatives or liberals will tell you that they fail. We use them strategically, but he does not fundamentally understand trade,” Walz said.

Then he pointed to the self -proclaimed commercial experience of Trump. Trump’s real estate companies have requested bankruptcy protection six times, although they have affirmed that these are strategic movements to avoid paying the debt.

“The greatest myth in this country is that Donald Trump knows something about business,” he continued. “It is in bankruptcy each in which it has been, and now it is bankrupt to the country.”

Walz echoed economic forecasts that warned that tariffs equals a tax on Americans who work.

“This is a tax increase that we have never seen in our lives, and will have a dramatic effect,” he said.
