Five people were rescued after 36 hours survived on a plane in a wealth -infested swamp at the Amazon Bolivian after they were forced to make an emergency landing, local officials said and the pilot on Friday.

All on board, three women, a child and the 29 -year -old pilot were rescued from his hanger on the plane overturned in “excellent conditions,” said Wilson Avila, director of emergency operations in the Beni region.

The plane was traveling from the city of Baurs to the city of Trinidad-Central de Trinidad when he had problems.

Andrés Velarde, the 29 -year -old pilot of the single -engine plane, told local media from his hospital bed that the plane suddenly began to lose altitude.

He looked for an open space to land, but had to settle for a swamp near a lagoon.

The five were “surrounded by weaders that occurred less than three meters from us,” said Velarde, added that he suspected that the kerosene leaked from the plane had kept the teeth predators at bay.

He said they also saw an anaconda in the murky waters.

For the livelihood, they ate a local cassava flour that one of the passengers had brought to the trip.

“We couldn’t drink water and we couldn’t go anywhere else due to the caimanes,” Velarde said.

On Thursday a search and rescue mission was launched after the plane disappeared from the radar.

The five were rescued after being seen by local fishermen and taken to the hospital by helicopter.

Ruben Torres, director of the Department of Health of the Beni region, said there had been “many theories” after the plane disappeared, Reuters reported.

“I am very happy because in the end all the institutions joined to find the missing people and save those lives,” he told Reuters.
