Hamilton’s original cast offers a flickering meeting at the 2025 Tony Awards
Lin-Manuel Miranda gave fans a powerful reminder of the impact defined by “Hamilton” when he met with the original cast of the musical for an epic performance at the Tony 2025 awards on Sunday night.
Miranda, a three -time Tony winner, marked the tenth anniversary of the musical uploading to the stage with the co -star Daveed Diggs, Christopher Jackson, Leslie Odom Jr., Renée Elise Goldsberry and Phillip Dies, Who Kelly, they say. “

The cast avoided the colonial attire of scenic production for totally black suits and dresses. The only exception was Jonathan Groff, who wiped an eye on the real attire of his character, King Jorge III, when putting on a red blazer to act “Will it return”?
The presenter of the night, Cynthia Eivo, presented the cast by pointing out how “Hamilton” had “revitalized the US theater and changed not only Broadway, but how the Americans see their own history.”

It is not surprising that the performance won a standing ovation.
“Hamilton” opened on Broadway in August 2015 after an off-broadway race at the New York Public Theater, obtaining enthusiastic criticism. The musical won 11 Tony Awards, including the best musical, the best actor in a musical for ODOM and the best actor highlighted in a musical for Diggs, as well as the 2016 Pulitzer Award for Drama. The production was later captured for posterity as a Disney+ Live special.

Along the way, there have been brushes with controversy. Earlier this year, producer Jeffrey Seller announced that “Hamilton” had canceled his planned career at the Kennedy center in Washington, DC, after President Donald Trump was appointed the president of the National Center for Performing Arts, traditionally a bipartisan institution.
This season, several notable veterans of “Hamilton” are back on Broadway. Groff, a 2024 Tony winner for “Merrily We Roll Aía”, is nominated again this year for his interpretation of Bobby Darin in “Just in Time”. Meanwhile, Jackson joined the cast of the musical “Hell’s Kitchen” by Alicia Keys this spring.
