Hegseth Orders rename the ship of the Navy in honor of LGBTQ+ Icon Harvey Milk: Reports
The Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegesh, ordered the Navy to change the name of the milk Harvey Harvey in honor of the LGBTQ+ Military Rights icon, according to reports.
The moment of name change, which was reported on the third day of the month of pride, was intentional, a person familiar with the plans told Military.com, that he was the first to inform Hegseth.
When contacted to comment, the spokesman for the Chief Pentagon Sean Parnell did not confirm the change of name, but said that Hegseth focuses on aligning military institutions with the opinions of President Donald Trump.
“Secretary Hegesh undertakes to ensure that the names attached to all the facilities and assets of the Department of Defense reflect the priorities of the commander in chief, the history of our nation and the warrior spirit. Any possible name change will be announced after completing internal revisions,” said Parnell.
A memorandum obtained by Military.com shows that the name change is scheduled to announce on June 13 aboard the constitution of the USS.

Milk was the first openly gay man chosen for a public office in California. He served less than a year at the San Francisco Supervisors Board before being killed in 1978. Before his policy career, Milk joined the Navy during the Korean War and served until 1955 when he was discharged by force due to his sexual orientation.
The USNS Harvey Milk was appointed in his honor in 2016, while President Barack Obama was still in office. He was one of several ships appointed by civil rights icons that year.
The speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, who represents a large part of San Francisco in Congress, reacted to the change of informed name, describing it as “shameful and vindictive deletion of those who fought to break the barriers so that all persecute the American dream.”
“Our army is the most powerful in the world, but this spiteful movement does not strengthen our national security or the spirit of” Guerrero, “he said in a statement. “On the other hand, it is a surrender of a fundamental American value: honor the legacy of those who worked to build a better country.”
