Trump, Putin talks about the summit in Alaska

Here

Trump, journalists from the Putin address after the summit, do not take questions | Special Report 58:37

President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin left Alaska on Friday Without a high fire agreementalthough both men described the meeting as constructive.

In what was announced by the White House as a press conference after their meeting, Trump and Putin took doubts, ignoring the cries of journalists.

Putin spoke little about Ukraine, focusing on the link and heritage between the United States and Russia, while Trump said many points were agreed and some stay, with respect to Ukraine. The president of the United States plans to call European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he said.

Here is a transcription of what Trump and Putin said:

Putin: Mr. President, Ladies and Knights, our negotiations have been carried out in a constructive atmosphere of mutual respect.

We have very thorough negotiations that were quite useful. I would like to thank my American counterpart once again, for the proposal to travel here to Alaska. It only makes sense that we have met here, because our countries, although separated by the oceans, are nearby neighbors. So, when we met, when I left the plane and said: ‘Good afternoon, dear neighbor. Very good to see you with good health and see you alive. I think that is very neighbor. I think they are some friendly words that we can tell us. However, we are separated by the Bering Strait, there are only two islands between the Russian island and the American island. They are just four kilometers away. We are close neighbors, and it is a fact.

It is also important that Alaska has to do with our common heritage, the common history between Russia and the United States, and many positive events have to do with that territory. Even so, there is a tremendous cultural heritage, back from Russian America, for example, Orthodox churches and many of more than 700 geographical names of Russian origin. During World War II, it was here in Alaska the origin of the legendary air bridge for the supply of military aircraft and other teams under the Lend-Arrendamiento program.

It was a dangerous and treacherous route on the vast empty of ice. However, the pilots of both countries did everything to bring victory closer. They risked their lives and gave everything for the common victory. I was right in the city of Magadan in Russia. And there is a monument dedicated to Russian, American pilots. And there are two flags, the American flag and the Russian flag. And I know here too, there is such a monument. There is a place of military burial several kilometers from here. The Soviet pilots are buried there who died during that dangerous mission. We are grateful to the citizens and the United States government for carefully taking care of their memory. I think it is very dignified and noble. We will always remember other historical examples when our countries defeated the common enemies together in the spirit of the battle camaraderie and the aliatic that supported and facilitated each other. I am sure that this heritage will help us reconstruct and encourage mutually beneficial and equal ties in this new stage, even during the most difficult conditions.

It is known that there have been no summits between Russia and the United States for four years, and that is a long time. This time it was very difficult for bilateral relations, and let’s be sincere, they have fallen to the lowest point since the Cold War. I think that does not benefit our countries and the world in general. It is evident that sooner or later, we have to amend the situation to move from confrontation to dialogue, and in this case, a personal meeting between the heads of state has naturally been delayed under the condition of serious and thorough work, and this work has been done.

In general, I and President Trump have very good direct contact. We have spoken several times. We speak frankly on the phone. And the president’s special envoy, Mr. Witkoff, traveled to Russia several times. Our advisors and chiefs of foreign ministries remained in contact all the time, and we know very well that one of the central themes was the situation of Ukraine.

We see the effort of the administration and President Trump personally to help facilitate the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, and his effort to reach the crux of the matter, to understand this story, is beautiful. As I said, the situation in Ukraine has to do with fundamental threats to our security. In addition, we have always considered the Ukrainian nation, and I have said it several times, a fraternal nation. How strange it may sound in these conditions. We have the same roots, and all that is happening is a tragedy for us and a terrible wound. Therefore, the country is sincerely interested in ending it.

At the same time, we are convinced that for the agreement to be lasting, we need to eliminate all the main roots, the main causes of that conflict, and we have said it several times, consider all the legitimate concerns of Russia and restore a balance of security in Europe and in the world in general, and according to President Trump, as he said today, that naturally, the security of security security. Naturally, we are prepared to work on that.

I would like to wait for the agreement we have arrived together to help us bring that goal closer and allane the path to peace in Ukraine. We hope that kyiv and the European capitals perceive that in a constructive way and that they will not throw a key in the works. They will not make any attempt to use some background deals to carry out provocations to torpedo the nascent progress.

By the way, when the new administration came to power, bilateral trade began to grow. It is still very symbolic. Even so, we have a 20%growth. As I said, we have many dimensions for joint work. It is clear that the investment and commercial cooperation of the United States and Russia have enormous potential. Russia and the United States can be offered both in trade, digital, high technology and space exploration. We see that Arctic Cooperation is also very possible, in our international context. For example, between the east end of Russia and the west coast of the United States

In general, it is very important that our countries return the page to return to cooperation. It is symbolic that, not far from here, the border between Russia and the United States, there was a so -called international date line. I think you can literally go around yesterday until tomorrow, and I hope that is, be successful in that, in the political sphere. I would like to thank President Trump for our joint work, for the tone of good and reliable wishes of our conversation.

It is important that both parties are oriented to the results and we see that the president of the United States has a very clear idea of what he would like to achieve. He sincerely worries about the prosperity of his nation. Even so, he understands that Russia has its own national interests.

I hope that today’s agreements are the starting point, not only for the solution of the Ukrainian problem, but will also help us recover commercial and pragmatic relations between Russia and the United States.

And in the end, I would like to add one more thing. I would like to remind you that in 2022, during the last contact with the previous administration, I tried to convince my previous American colleague, I should not: the situation should not be taken to the point of no return, when I would reach hostilities and accept it directly at that time, that is a great mistake. Today, when President Trump says that if he were the president at that time, there would be no war, and I am quite sure that in fact it would be like that. I can confirm that. I think that, in general, the President and President Trump have created a very good commercial and reliable contact, and we have all the reasons to believe that advancing on this path, we can come and assume that it is better until the end of the conflict in Ukraine. Thank you. Thank you.

TRIUMPH: Thank you very much, Mr. President, who was very deep, and I will say that I think we had a very productive meeting. There were many, many points where we agreed, most of them, would say, a couple of greats that we have not reached there, but we have advanced. Then there is no treatment until there is a deal.

I will call NATO in a time, I will call the various people who I think they are appropriate, and of course I will call President Zelenskyy and tell him about today’s meeting. Finally it depends on them. They will have to agree with what Marco and Steve and some of the great people of the Trump administration who have come here, Scott and John Ratcliffe. Thank you so much. But we have some of our really great leaders. They have been doing a phenomenal job.

We also have some tremendous Russian commercial representatives here. And I think, you know, everyone wants to deal with us. We have become the most popular country anywhere in the world in a very short period of time, and we expect that. We hope to try, we will try to end this.

We really made great progress today. I have always had a fantastic relationship with President Putin, with Vladimir. We had many, many difficult meetings, good meetings. We were interfered with the deception of Russia, Russia, Russia. He made it a little more difficult to treat, but he understood. I think I have probably seen things like that during the course of his career. It has been seen, he has seen everything. But we had to endure the deception of Russia, Russia and Russia. I knew it was a hoax, and I knew it was a hoax, but what was done was very criminal, but it made it difficult for us to treat as a country, in terms of the business, and all the things they would like to deal with, but we will have a good opportunity when this ends.

So to put it very fast, I will start making some phone calls and tell them what happened. But we had an extremely productive meeting, and many points were agreed. There are only a few left. Some are not so significant. One is probably the most significant, but we have very good chances of getting there. We do not get there, but we have very good chances of getting there. I would like to thank President Putin and his entire team, whose faces I know, in many cases, otherwise, apart from that, whose faces I can see all the time in the newspapers, you are very famous like the boss, but especially this here.

But we had some good meetings over the years, right? Good and productive meetings over the years, and we hope to have that in the future. Let’s make the most productive at this time. We are going to stop, in reality, 5, 6, 7 thousand, 1000 people per week for being killed, and President Putin wants to see that as much as me. Again, Mr. President, I would like to thank you very much, and we will talk to you very soon, and we will probably see it very soon. Thank you very much, Vladimir.

Putin: Next time in Moscow.

TRIUMPH: Ooh, that is interesting. I don’t know. I will take a little heat in that, but I could see what possibly happens. Thank you very much, Vladimir, and thank you all. Thank you. Thank you.

Putin: Thank you so much.
