Here’s what we know so far about Britney Spears
Britney Spears was arrested on suspicion of DUI Wednesday night in Ventura County, California, according to multiple points of sale.
The pop star was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. local time, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said. She was released early Thursday morning.
Spears was allegedly speeding and weaving between lanes while driving a black 2026 BMW convertible before her DUI arrest, according to police dispatch audio obtained by Page Six and TMZ.
Authorities requested a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) who is trained to identify drunk drivers during the incident. It is unclear if a field sobriety test was performed at the scene.
Sources also tell TMZ that the singer had her blood drawn and tested at the hospital during her DUI arrest.
It is unclear whether the “Toxic” singer was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both. It appears Spears was the only person in the vehicle at the time of her arrest.
News also contacted the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department for comment.
TMZ reported That the pop icon’s arrest comes on the heels of Spears being granted a permanent restraining order against a 51-year-old Louisiana man who showed up at her home uninvited.

The unidentified man, who allegedly shared several “disturbing posts on social media,” had been harassing her online since 2013, according to Spears’ court filing. The man was arrested for breaking into his home in 2025.
Spears’ Instagram page was reportedly deleted sometime this week.
The dancer’s manager, Cade Hudson, called her arrest “an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable” in a statement to News. Thursday.
“Britney is going to take the right steps and follow the law and hopefully this can be the first step in a long overdue change that needs to happen in Britney’s life. Hopefully she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time,” Hudson said.
The statement continued: “Her children will spend time with her. Her loved ones will come up with a necessary and overdue plan to set her up for health success.”
Spears sparked concern among fans about her well-being following the 2021 termination of her 13-year court-ordered conservatorship. Police conducted a welfare check on the musician in September 2023 after she posted a video of her dancing with knives in her home.
Spears later edited her Instagram caption to clarify that the knives were not real.
“Today I started playing in the kitchen with knives!!! Don’t worry, they are NOT real knives!!! Halloween is soon,” she wrote.
The “Toxic” singer is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on May 4.
