The disease of hand, foot and mouth (HFMD) is increasing in some parts of the United States, public health departments reported.
Highly contagious viral disease is more frequent among children under 5 years of age, but people of all ages can become infected, according to disease control and prevention centers (CDC).
In Virginia, the Fairfax County Health District has published an alert on six HFMD outbreaks earlier this year, mainly affecting children 4 years and over.
