How a low profile democrat challenged Trump

Washington – Chris Van Hollen has spent silence to shape the foreign policy of the United States in Congress, winning a reputation as a serious legislator of the establishment wing of the Democratic Party.

The 66 -year -old legislator’s stand offered a lesson on how to break the media atmosphere with a convincing argument that opposes the Trump administration, especially at a time when many in their party are struggling to do the same. The Democrats were caught in the first months of Trump’s presidency, staggering for the aggressive rhythm of their efforts to dismantle the federal government and fire thousands of federal employees. “Jumping on a flight to El Salvador, putting their own safety at risk and probably obtaining at least half of exposure to national media, has had its entire career in the Senate … It seems a risk that he had paid for the broader cause and for himself, and we need more of that,” added Green de Van Hollen.

At first glance, Van Hollen is an unlikely resistance hero. He is not a fire respirator, he usually does not get the headlines and prefers to work behind the scene. He has had a very traditional trajectory in the Senate: he was chosen for the camera in 2003 and made his way to a leadership role before his career in the 2016 Senate to replace Senator withdrawal Barbara Mikulski (D-MD). “During the time he knows my friend Senator Chris Van Hollen has committed to defend himself against Marylanders and the right thing,” added representative Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). “That commitment, and Chris’s moral clarity, took him to El Salvador last week. We will need more of that kind of leadership of principles in the months and years.”

Van Hollen’s practical approach to challenge Trump administration has deferred of other high -ranking Democratic officials. The governor of California, Gavin Newsom and the governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, two 2028 presidential containing potentials, for example, have sometimes minimized their Trump criticisms.
