John Cusack is accusing President Donald Trump of trying to turn Chicago into a “fascist hub” after he deployed National Guard troops to the main city under the guise of fighting crime and strengthening immigration efforts.

Speaking with CNN On Saturday, during the “No Kings” protests in Chicago, Cusack, an Illinois native, dragged Trump and told the political leader to “go to hell” before criticizing his hardline immigration policies.

“The interesting thing is that he doesn’t understand that all labor rights around the world come from this city, this place,” Cusack said. “So if he thinks this place is going to be a fascist center, there’s no chance.”

Since taking office for the second time, Trump has deployed the National Guard to several Democratic-led cities, including Los Angeles; Washington, DC; Memphis, Tennessee; Portland, Oregon; and, most recently, Chicago.

The actor said it’s “disturbing” to see the right “turn” into “some kind of fascist authoritarian.”

“It’s all disturbing. To see some kind of fascist authoritarian… to see that kind of cosplay that the right has been playing with for so long,” he continued. “Watching it become real is predictable but deeply sad.”

The “2012” star criticized the president and his “masked thugs” for making Chicago the epicenter of the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration.

“Everyone knows the outcome, right? Authoritarians divide and conquer and create an ‘other’ and then they mess with it, they mess with the person, they harass them, they imprison them, and all of that is used as a distraction so they can steal everything they can. [and] maintain power,” Cusack said.

He added: “We all know the story. So, that’s what he’s doing, and we have masked thugs walking the streets… hiding their faces.” [and] kidnapping people.”

In 2019, Cusack called Trump supporters “flag-sucking fools” and “MAGA death freaks” after they criticized him for not showing up for a military tribute at a Chicago Cubs game.

He later criticized Trump as a “con artist” who is “beyond shame.”

“Trump is a con man, but he’s bad. I think he’s more of a sociopath,” he said in a 2020 interview with The Progressive magazine. “He’s decided that it doesn’t matter what he lies about or how much he lies.”

Cusack added: “Whether it gives him satisfaction in the moment or gets more people excited about him, he doesn’t care. He’s beyond embarrassed.”
