Indy 500 Broadcast gets million viewers while Alex Palou wins for the first time

More than 7 million viewers tuned to see Alex Palou win the first 500 Indianapolis of his career during the weekend, News Sports announced on Monday.
The race obtained 7.05 million viewers, said News Sports, citing Nielsen Fast National Ratings. The company added that it had 8.4 million viewers at its peak between 4 pm et and 4:15 pm et.

It was the Indianapolis 500 more seen in 17 years, according to News Sports. The last Indy 500 in drawing a comparable audience was the 2008 race, which obtained an audience of 7,245 million. News Sports said the audience increased 40% of last year’s race.
It was the first year that News broadcast the Indianapolis 500.

Palou passed Marcus Ericsson with 14 laps to go in the race and held him and the rest of the pack at bay to win the race. It was the fifth victory of the 2025 season for Palou and the first time a Spaniard won the Indy 500.
Palou began the race in sixth position in the second row abroad of Scott Dixon and with Felix Rosenqvist. I needed to work hard to get to the front when persistent rain and several caution flags came out, which could have stopped their impulse at any time.

When the race went down to the end, he had the opportunity to move through Ericsson. He had a bit of lap traffic in front of him, but they did not seem to hinder Palou’s ability to win at all.
