Irresponsible: medical experts hit Trump affirm Tylenol, pregnancy and autism
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists played the announcement of President Donald Trump that links the use of Tylenol during pregnancy with autism, and criticized the administration’s guide as “irresponsible” and “disturbing” in a Monday statement.
“HHS’s announcement is not backed by the complete body of scientific evidence and dangerously simplifies the many and complex causes of neurological challenges in children,” said Voy President Steven J. Fleischman. “It is very disturbing that our federal health agencies are willing to make an announcement that affects the health and well -being of millions of people without the support of reliable data.”
Fleischman continuó observando que “ni un solo estudio de buena reputación ha concluido con éxito que el uso del acetaminofeno en cualquier trimestre del embarazo causa trastornos del desarrollo neurológico en los niños”. He added that studies often cited as evidence face “methodological limitations”, including problems with self -informed data and lack of control for confusion variables.

On Monday, Trump also repeatedly argued that there is no “inconvenience” if people refrain from the use of Tylenol during pregnancy, an affirmation that experts also played. If not, maternal fever and pain can be harmful, said Fleischman.
“The conditions that people use acetaminophen to treat during pregnancy are much more dangerous than any theoretical risk, and can create severe morbidity and mortality for the pregnant person and the fetus,” Fleischman said. Uncreated fevers during pregnancy could increase the risk of spontaneous abortion, premature birth and possible birth defects, according to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Society (SMFM).
SMFM similarly questioned the conclusions of the administration and emphasized that it was maintained through the orientation that acetaminophen “considered an appropriate medication to treat pain and fever during pregnancy.”

When a journalist interrogated him about the rejection of the experts, Trump raised his usual attacks, while admitting that his concerns could be valid.
“That is the establishment, they are financed by many different groups and, you know, maybe they are right,” Trump said. “I don’t think they are.”
