James Cameron criticizes Amy Poehler for
Like Jack and Rose in “Titanic,” James Cameron “will never let go.”
The famed director can clearly hold a grudge as big as an iceberg, as he opened up about an “ignorant dig” at the 2013 Golden Globes in a new interview with The New York Times.
Amy Poehler uttered the phrase directed at Cameron at the awards ceremony, while talking about director Kathryn Bigelow, to whom he was married. Bigelow directed “Zero Dark Thirty,” which included some graphic torture scenes.
“When it comes to torture, I trust the lady who spent three years married to James Cameron,” joked Poehler, who was co-hosting with Tina Fey at the time.
Cameron reflected on the quote, saying that “Amy Poehler’s comment was an ignorant insinuation, at an event that’s supposed to be a celebration of film and filmmakers, not a barbecue.”
“I’m pretty insensitive and I’m happy to be the butt of a good-natured joke, but that went too far,” he said in the interview, published earlier this month. “The fact that people found it funny shows exactly what they think of me, even though they have no idea who I am or how I work.”

Cameron and Bigelow were married from 1989 to 1991 and have remained friends and collaborators since their separation.
The two have also faced off before at major awards shows, with Cameron defending Bigelow’s work against his own.
“I think we’re really not that different in a lot of ways, and we know that about each other, that we’re both dedicated to the craft,” the “Avatar” director said in an interview with Charlie Rose in 2010.
“For both of them, it’s very much about the work and a total, all-consuming passion for film,” he said at the time. “And you know, I think that’s what brought us together, that we each respected the other’s passion and craft, etc., plus she was beautiful.”
