Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville offered a damning assessment of President Donald Trump’s current standing with voters.

Currently, Trump’s polls are “at an all-time low,” Carville noted during an appearance on the latest episode of “The Daily Beast Podcast” released Monday, pointing to a Gallup poll that shows his approval rating at 36%.

“I don’t know how much lower you can go,” Carville said.

“I think his presidency, in terms of accomplishing anything significant, is over,” he added, predicting that after the 2026 midterm elections, Trump will likely have to deal with a Democratic-controlled House, and possibly a Democratic-controlled Senate as well.

“Trump is running out of power by the minute. You can feel like he’s slipping away,” Carville added later in the episode, during which he elaborated on his recent op-ed for The New York Times that attributed recent Democratic election victories to the “economic pain” Americans were experiencing during Trump’s second term.

“We are experiencing the greatest economic inequality since the Roaring Twenties,” Carville wrote for the Times. “President Trump has done nothing to curb the cost of what it takes to even take a breather in America today, the central promise of his 2024 campaign.”

“People are rebelling and have been doing so for some time,” he added. “This offers Democrats the greatest gift you can have in American politics: a second chance.”
