Jane Fonda looks back in how sex scenes were before intimacy coordinators
Jane Fonda says she wants intimacy coordinators to have existed previously in her career.
In statements to Women’s Wear Daily at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, the legendary actor praised the security protocols now instead in the films sets after the #MeToo movement.
“Every time you start a movie, you have training, what to do if there is a problem,” said Fonda. “That never happened in my day.”
Then he directed his attention to the intimacy coordinators, the professionals who ensure that sex scenes are handled with care, consent and respect.

“I wish we had them when I was doing sex scenes,” Fonda said. “Because it’s difficult … telling a boy who is supposed to see with the one you’re in love, ‘Please do not discover my chest on the left side.” You don’t do that, right?
Fonda has previously opened about the discomfort of navigating intimate scenes in an industry dominated by men.
In 2023, he told The Hollywood Reporter that having an intimacy coordinator on the set would have changed the game for her when she was a young actor.

“What a difference I would have made in terms of my comfort,” he said at that time. “I missed that. It is difficult to even describe the difference when you are the only one [woman] In a set, literally the only one. “
