JD Vance gets big reaction at Winter Olympics opening ceremony
Vice President JD Vance is second to President Donald Trump, but he may have been the number one to receive boos at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Milan on Friday.
The CBC broadcast captured fans at the San Siro stadium mocking the vice president, who was watching with his wife, Usha.. Watch the video here.
“Oops… that’s a lot of boos for him,” said announcer Adrienne Arsenault. “Whistles, taunts. Some applause.”
The atmosphere contrasted with the mostly warm reception the American team received despite the IOC’s fears that they, too, would be booed.
The negativity was at Vance’s level at the Milan-Cortina Games. She drew widespread scorn online when she appeared in the United States women’s hockey opener against Czechia on Thursday.
Vance has received criticism for calling the press “one of the least trustworthy institutions” and saying that journalists are “fake.”
Those boos rang real, though.
